New and increased higher education fees mean we need to change the way we offer courses. While we will offer help where we can, we think the best way forward is to enable well-supported practitioners, who want to, to begin earning a living from their studies as soon as possible. That's why for 2012, working with the University of Worcester, we have redesigned our training and professional development opportunities. Our innovative partnership means together we can help you build and develop a flexible and rewarding career supporting parents during their journey from pregnancy to parenthood.

We are also continuing our work with the Open College Network to provide the skills and knowledge for those who want to help others though peer support.

Career

Our new, incremental training programmes have been developed to offer the best possible training in this area. In England, our progammes support the work done by the Department of Health, and the introduction of its national Preparation for Birth and Beyond framework. 

You could be working as a practitioner after just one year.

And after training as a Birth and Beyond Practitioner you have the option to study more academic modules to qualify and work as a specialist: you could become an Antenatal Teacher, a Breastfeeding Counsellor, a Postnatal Leader, or an NCT Doula.  Or how about leading Yoga for Pregnancy classes?

University accredited

Through our work with the University of Worcester you now have the opportunity to gain an accredited university qualification whilst training for a vocational role. Ours is the only university accredited qualification for parenting education.

Training for our Certificate in Higher Education – Birth and Beyond, can be done over one or two years.

Built around you

Our training is student-focused and courses have been designed with you in mind. You will learn in a way that suits your individual needs, using a variety of approaches including tutorials, study days, one-to-one time with a tutor, self-directed study and online learning opportunities.

All our courses are flexible and are ideal for women with young families or those returning to study or work.

Through our family-friendly, accredited training and development options you can become part of the UK’s largest network of practitioners, working in a rewarding role with parents at a unique and important time in their lives.

Once qualified you could be working with parents locally or using the NCT’s centralised booking system to arrange to work in any part of the country.
