Diversity and Access

NCT supports parents and parents-to-be from a range of diverse and socially disadvantaged backgrounds through voluntary work, partnerships with community and other charitable organisations and via the NHS and Children's Centres.

Pregnancy and the early months with a new baby are times when mothers and fathers have all kinds of questions and need support and encouragement from friends, family and professionals. NCT provides a range of services directly to parents and to services working with parents.

We have experience of working with the NHS, Sure Start and community groups to deliver projects under contract and to provide consultation and practical training. Our parent-centred approach is particularly helpful in engaging hard-to-reach groups and we have developed a wide range of skills through our partnerships with local organisations and courses tailored to parents’ needs, including black and minority ethnic families, refugees and asylum seekers and young parents.

In this section you will find some examples of innovative and responsive services including good practice case studies and articles about NCT's work to support particular groups of parents through the transition to parenthood. Also included are articles written about other organisations and health care providers who are actively engaged in supporting diverse groups of parents from pregnancy and birth and through all the changes of being a parent.
